Admissions

Be Prepared

Please come to the main entrance where valet parking is available. When you arrive, register in the Admitting Department. Surgical patients with surgeries before 2:00 p.m. may go directly to the Ambulatory Surgery Unit on the fourth floor.


What to Bring

  • a list of any medications you take and their dosages
  • a list of allergies, including any drugs and details of the reaction you experienced
  • pajamas, robe and slippers
  • eyeglasses and dentures
  • personal hygiene items
  • your insurance identification card
  • photo ID, such as a license


What Not to Bring

  • money
  • jewelry or other valuables
  • medicines


Calling Your Nurse

You may call your nurse by pressing the call button on your bed. In most rooms, your call will be answered by a member of the nursing staff over a voice communication system. Please use a normal speaking voice.


Dining at Park View Café

Location: Ground floor, North Wing


Hours:

7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

2:00 a.m. to 3:30 a.m.


The café is open to visitors and staff and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. You may choose from sandwiches and grill items made to order, a daily special or the soup/salad bar and desserts.


Electrical Appliances

Electrical appliances including electric razors, hairdryers, fans, clocks, radios or TVs are not permitted in patient rooms. You may only use battery-operated devices.


Fire Drills

Fire drills are held regularly for staff. Please stay in your room until the drill is complete.


Hearing Impaired and Interpreters

We have services for patients who are not fluent in English, are deaf or are hearing impaired. Please speak to your nurse or the Case Management Department at (631) 351-2227 to arrange for an interpreter. For deaf or hearing-impaired patients, we have closed caption television, TTYs, assistive listening devices and hearing aid-compatible telephones.


Lost and Found

The hospital’s Lost and Found is maintained by the Security Department and is located on the main floor. You may call Lost and Found at (631) 351-2323 between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.


Medicines

Do not bring medicines, either prescription or over-the-counter, into the hospital unless your physician tells you to do so. All medicines you take in the hospital need to be prescribed, filled and given to you by hospital staff.


Meal Service

In-room dining is provided for patients between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Simply press the "food" button on your Nightingale phone or call 385-FOOD (ext. 3663). One of our dining assistants will help you arrange a balanced and nutritious meal to be delivered to your bedside. Orders typically arrive within 40 minutes of placement.


A registered dietitian will perform a nutritional assessment to evaluate and promote your nutritional well-being. Your doctor may order a specific diet for you. Some menu items may be limited if you are on a prescribed diet. Please inform the ambassador or nurse if you have any food allergies, preferences or other special needs. A registered dietitian is available to provide diet education for you and/or your family.


Rapid Response Team

The Rapid Response Team is a group of specially trained individuals who quickly check the condition of the patient and provide help before there is a medical emergency. Call 2600 from the patient’s room. The hospital operator will ask for information and activate a Rapid Response Team.


Smoking

Huntington Hospital is a smoke-free campus. Smoking is prohibited in all areas of the hospital and on hospital grounds.


Telephone

Telephone service is provided free of charge. Your direct-dial number is on your room phone. You can receive incoming calls directly except from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. The hospital operator will answer calls during this time. 


To dial within the 631 area code, dial 8, then the number. For other area codes, dial 8, then 1, then the area code and number. The hospital has volume control handsets and TTY units. If you need one, please call 0 or speak to your nurse.


Television

Television service is available to all patients free of charge. For any TV servicing needs, please dial ext. 2739. 


Ask your nurse for a current schedule of the programs. Channel 24 provides comfort and relaxation through beautiful scenery and music.
